समाधान: कई कारण हैं जो परिवर्तनीय को धीरे-धीरे और स्थायी रूप से प्रभावित करते हैं और ऐसे कई कारण हैं जो केवल काल के लिए चर को प्रभावित करते हैं।

The causes which affect the variable gradually and permanently are termed as “Long-Term Causes”.

वेरिएबल को धीरे-धीरे और स्थायी रूप से प्रभावित करने वाले कारणों को “दीर्घकालिक कारण” कहा जाता है।

The examples of such causes are: increase in the rate of capital formation, technological innovations, the introduction of automation, changes in productivity, improved marketing etc. The effect of long term causes is reflected in the tendency of a behaviour, to move in an upward or downward direction, termed as ‘Trend’ or ‘Secular Trend’. It reveals as to how the time series has behaved over the period under study.

ऐसे कारणों के उदाहरण हैं: पूंजी निर्माण, तकनीकी नवाचारों, स्वचालन की शुरूआत, उत्पादकता में परिवर्तन, बेहतर विपणन इत्यादि में वृद्धि। दीर्घकालिक कारणों का प्रभाव किसी व्यवहार की प्रवृत्ति में प्रतिबिंबित होता है, एक स्थानांतरित करने के लिए ऊपरी या नीचे की दिशा, जिसे ‘रुझान’ या ‘धर्मनिरपेक्ष प्रवृत्ति’ कहा जाता है। यह बताता है कि अध्ययन के दौरान अवधि के दौरान काल श्रेणी का व्यवहार कैसे किया जाता है।
