Indicate the difference among classification survey, registration survey, and under writers survery; and enumerate the important checks performed by the classification society on a ship.

Under writers survey – The loss of owners of the ships would also be disadvantaged if there was no reliable organization present, to check and prove that their vessels were considered according to the highest prevailing standards, repair and maintenance were carried out and international regulations made by classification surveys Surveys should not be in conformity with the authorized representative of the government for registration or under the survey. Confused with the survey by representatives of the members. While classification surveys are done to ensure that the ship adheres to the norms and maintains orbit upgrades, the purpose of the survey is to check the measurement only. Similarly, the purpose of the author’s survey is to verify the express warranty declared by the assurance.

These days, when the shipping industry is progressing rapidly with adoption of the latest technology, the underwriter will be very reluctant to issue the ship if it has not been assured of classification class by authorized classification surveys. Not only this, the premium is dependent on the class of the ship. The classification society classifies the upper class, that implies the highest standards of shipbuilding and maintenance. Naturally the premium for this vessel will be proportionally lower compared to the average class ship. Thus, classification of the vessel by the classification society is of paramount importance, in fact, in the absence of classification, it would be really impossible for the shipowner to insure his ship. No merchant will be willing to transport his business to that ship, which has not been classified and is not as vulnerable as the carrier underwriter will not insure the business if he is carried on the ship, which is unsafe and uncategorized.

Some important checks on the classification survey ship do the following: –
1. Supervision of investigation of series anchors
2. Supervision of testing steel used in the manufacture of TTC of a vessel and its boilers, and in case of large vessels their engines, forging and casting
3. Kill monitoring
4. Survey of registration machinery and equipment
5. Survey and measure of a ship
6. Ship Full and Survey of Machinery
7. Surveillance of Security Equipments and Emergency Door

Classification survey

Some well-known classification surveys are:
1. American Bureau of Shipping
2. Bureau Veritas
3. Indian register of shipping
4. Japanese Marine Corporation
5. Norse Vertus
6. Registro Italiano
7. Llyods of London

Importance of classification

The classification of the vessel is compulsory, but is encouraged. Classification enables banks, underwriters, financiers, brokers, traders, shipers and other entities involved in shipping to draw reliable information about the ship without any hassle. If a ship is not certified (or classified), underwriter ships are vulnerable to insurance. The premium paid depends on the grade of the ship. A high grade implies that the ship sets confirm industry standards and therefore, the premium for such a ship is comparatively lower. Apart from this, traders are reluctant to trade in uncertain, insured ships.
