Critically analyse The English Patient as a modernist novel.

Fresentation of materials in The English Patient happens largely along modernist lines but in the matter of subverting ‘realistic’ narrative structures, the modernist elements of technique are given a push towards post modernist elements.

The novel has several converging plot-lines. All is held together in the consciousness of Hana. Towards the end the author makes a willing surrender of his power over the narrative.
