DEFINITION OF LANGUAGE

According to Hockett (1958), language is “the most valuable single possession of the human race (communication)”, Each one of us makes use of language in’ virtually everything we do. The use of language is an integral part of being human. Humboldt has even gone to the extent of saying that “man is man through the use of language alone”.

होककेट (1 9 58) के अनुसार, भाषा “मानव जाति (संचार) का सबसे मूल्यवान एकमात्र अधिकार है”, हम में से हर भाषा में ‘हम सब कुछ जो करते हैं’ भाषा का उपयोग मानव होने का अभिन्न अंग है हम्बोल्ट भी कहने की सीमा तक चला गया है कि “मनुष्य अकेले भाषा के उपयोग के जरिए आदमी है”

Vet, the use of language is so spontaneous and natural that we pay no more attention to it than we do to our breathing or to the beating of our hearts. We take language too much for granted, Just for a brief while, try and imagine what our life would be like without language. Extremely difficult, if not impossible ! What then is this unique thing called language.

भाषा का प्रयोग इतना सहज और स्वाभाविक है कि हम इसके बारे में और अधिक ध्यान नहीं देते जितना हम अपने श्वास या हमारे दिल की मार के लिए करते हैं। हम बहुत ज़्यादा भाषा लेते हैं, थोड़ी देर के लिए, कोशिश करते हैं और कल्पना करते हैं कि बिना भाषा के बिना हमारा जीवन कैसा होगा। बेहद मुश्किल, यदि असंभव नहीं है! फिर इस अनूठी बात को भाषा कहा जाता है।
