Discuss The Scarlet Letter as a literary response to Puritanism

The novel begins with the public exhibition of the shame and sin of the woman in front of the whole Puritan village that immediately validates, in a second trial of conscience, the verdict already issued by the magistrates of the colony.
Standing on the scaffold, with her daughter in her arms, Hester sees, among the crowd, the other two characters that make up a trio on which the tragedy of the novel is woven. And each one of them is recomposed from the relationship with the adulterous woman, and she herself with the origin of her sin and with the social and moral consequences that the execution of the punishment brings.

Hester suffers for three reasons: for the execution of a sanction imposed by the Moral exercised by magistrates, priests and the people; for the inability to impose or transmit any moral code to his daughter because she is the fruit of sin; and by the silence that is self-imposed at the time of revealing the identity of the father and therefore co-author of sin.
