INDEPENDENT AND DEPENDENT CLAUSES

A clause is a group of words which has a subject and a predicate (with a finite verb) of its own. In this sense, a ‘simple’ sentence (one subject and one predicate) can also be called a clause. The conventional way of looking at a clause, though, is to treat it as part of a larger sentence. Read the following sentences. Each of them has more than one clause.
