Inflectional affixes

Inflectional affixes change the meaning of the stem to which they are attached in a regular way; derivational affixes affect the meaning of different sets of words in different ways. Inflectional affixes never change the part of speech of the words to which they are attached; derivational affixes often do so.

Inflectional affixes are attached to words after all the derivational affixes have been attached to them. Usually, only one inflectional affix is attached to a word. Affixes are inflectional or derivational.
