SOCIAL VARIETIES OF LANGUAGE
The next important concept is that of the forms of language determined by use.
These forms are also called Registers. Halliday stipulates that any discourse can be analysed in terms of (a)field of discourse (subject), (b) mode of discourse
(written/spoken) (c) Style (formal/informal). In recent years the term functional
variety is preferred by scholar instead of the term register. Functional variations of
language lead to what is known as interpersonal variation, that is, the same
individual using different codes at different times, in different situations. Language use here is determined by the field of discourse, what function the speaker has to perform, role relationship with the hearer and so on. In the case of multilingual speakers the case becomes even more complicated.
अगला महत्वपूर्ण अवधारणा यह है कि उपयोग के आधार पर निर्धारित भाषा के रूप इन रूपों को भी रजिस्टर कहा जाता है हॉलिडे का कहना है कि (क) व्याख्यान (विषय) के मामले में किसी भी प्रवचन का विश्लेषण किया जा सकता है, (बी) प्रवचन (लिखने / बोली जाने वाली) की शैली (सी) शैली (औपचारिक / अनौपचारिक)। हाल के वर्षों में शब्द कार्यात्मक विविधता शब्द पद के बजाय विद्वान द्वारा पसंद किया जाता है। भाषा की कार्यात्मक विविधताओं को पारस्परिक रूप से भिन्नता के रूप में जाना जाता है, अर्थात, अलग-अलग स्थितियों में अलग-अलग कोडों का उपयोग करते हुए एक ही व्यक्ति। भाषा का प्रयोग यहां व्याख्यान के क्षेत्र द्वारा निर्धारित किया जाता है, स्पीकर को क्या कार्य करना है, सुनने वाले के साथ भूमिका संबंध और इसी तरह। बहुभाषी वक्ताओं के मामले में मामला और भी जटिल हो जाता है.
Interpersonal variation of language stipulates that no two individuals speak in the
same way. If this kind of variation is taken to its extreme limit it leads to what is
called ideolect, that is, the view that any use of language is highly idiosyncractic.
Inter and intra personal variation is by and large systematic and context bound, and can therefore be studied and analysed.
भाषा की पारस्परिक विविधता बताती है कि कोई भी दो व्यक्ति उसी तरह से बात नहीं करता है। यदि इस तरह की विविधता को अपनी चरम सीमा तक ले जाया जाता है तो यह ideolect कहा जाता है, अर्थात यह है कि भाषा का कोई भी उपयोग बेहद विशिष्ट व्यक्ति है। अंतर और अंतर व्यक्तिगत भिन्नता और बड़े व्यवस्थित और संदर्भ बाध्य है, और इसलिए इसका अध्ययन और विश्लेषण किया जा सकता है।
