‘Rajmohan’s Wife is about transgression’. Would you agree? Discuss this statement in the light of Bankim’s understanding of transgression?

The underlying sense we get is that desire would by its nature always want to transgress and in that sense, tragedy is intrinsic to society. Today, this should be largely unacceptable. However, Bankim’s fiction tells us that it is inherent in the very nature of society- so as long as man is social and therefore lives in a society, he has to adhere to certain norms, and deny himself what he often desires. Till then there are bound to be conflicts which may be tragic. But this is not to say that tragedy is eternal and autonomous of society. We have consistently drawn your attention to this modem rational principle.
