I hit a blow on the ridge of his skull,
laid him stretched out,
and he split to the knob of his gullet.

context -These line taken from J.M. Synge’s (1861–1909)The Playboy of the Western World, Act Two.

Comment – Christy infers that he conferred this deed since his dad had treated him exceptionally generally. He laments, besides, that his dad was ‘a filthy man, God pardon him, and he getting old what’s more, dry, the way I couldn’t endure him by any stretch of the imagination’ (1:266-268).

Not long after, Christy adorns his intention by expressing that just before the murder, while they were burrowing potatoes together, his dad was requesting that Christy wed the Widow Casey (with the goal that the father would have her hovel to live in and her gold to drink’ (2:126-127)). In any case, Christy obtusely rejected his father’s demand, griping that Widow Casey was significantly more seasoned than he and, in addition, that she was mean and ugly and that, in any case, for a month and a half had been his wet medical caretaker.
