THE LAST LESSON by Alphonse Daudet in hindi

THE LAST LESSON by Alphonse Daudet

While I was making these strange observations, Mr. Hamel had gone up to his platform, and with the same grave and sweet voice with which he had received me, he said:

– My children, it is the last day that I give them class. The order has come from Berlin that no more be taught than German in the schools of Alsace and Lorraine … The new teacher arrives tomorrow. Today is our last lesson in French; I beg you to put all your attention.

These four words completely upset me. Miserable! This is what they prepared us with the side of the Mayor’s Office.

Narrator (Franz) last lesson in French! And Narrator (Franz) hardly knew how to write! Then, Narrator (Franz) would never learn it! It would not happen from there! How Narrator (Franz) reproached himself for the lost time, the steers Narrator (Franz) had made to go to nests or to skate over the Saar! “My books, which recently bored me so much and so heavy in my hand, my Grammar, my Sacred History, now seemed like old friends, of whom I would have a hard time separating myself.” The same as Mr. Hamel. “The idea that I was going to leave, that I would no longer see him, made me forget the punishments and the slaps.”
