TYPES OF DEPENDENT CLAUSES

1. I will go there.

I will go where you want me to work. (place)

2. He waited all the time.

He waited till he heard the sound of an approaching car. (time)

3. She appeared as witness willingly.

She appeared as a witness because she knew the truth. (reason)

4. He acted skillfully.

He acted as if he knew the truth. (manner)

5. If you come to our house, I shall introduce you to my sister. (condition)

Take an umbrella with you in case it rains.

It rained so hard that all the streets were flooded.

As it was raining hard in Chennai, the OD1 had to be abandoned.

To summarise, a clause is a group of words with a subject and a predicate of its own. There are two types of clauses — independent and dependent. Dependent clause (s) may be classified as Noun, Adjective, and Adverb clauses, on the basis of the function that each performs.

1. मैं वहां जाऊंगा।
मैं वहां जाऊँगा जहां आप मुझे काम करना चाहते हैं (जगह)
2. वह हर समय इंतजार किया।
वह तब तक इंतजार करता था जब तक उसने एक गाड़ी की आवाज नहीं सुनाई। (पहर)
3. वह स्वेच्छा से साक्षी के रूप में दिखाई दिया
वह एक साक्षी के रूप में दिखाई दी क्योंकि वह सत्य को जानता था (कारण)
4. वह कुशलता से काम किया।
उसने काम किया जैसे कि वह सत्य को जानता था (तौर तरीका)
5. यदि आप हमारे घर आते हैं, तो मैं आपको अपनी बहन को पेश करूँगा। (शर्त)
