Discuss The Scarlet Letter as a literary response to Puritanism

All this leads her to live a life in solitude, outside the community and any kind of human relationship. With the passage of time, even when she is re-admitted into the colony, her attitude will not be very different from when she was ostracized: silence, work and an austere self-denial in everything she does.
From that commitment with herself and her sin, comes from the pen of Hawthorne, a character of a moral dimension and courage that becomes the measure of all the other characters and that, through the vital dilemma that represents, ends up turning to sin in a more social convention, managed by the community in the face of the impossibility of an individual freedom of conscience that is cut off by the tribal attitude of the Puritan town.

Deeply psychological novel that tracks, deepens and evaluates each one of the motivations and actions of all the characters (the woman, the clergy, the priest, the magistrates, the witch … except the character that is the fruit of sin: the little Pearl who is portrayed almost as a spirit of the forest that lives freely outside any convention or social moral), unites, to this strong moral content a very important metaphorical and symbolic element that goes from what is the object and title of the novel to the physical spaces (the forest, the town, the scaffold …) passing through the very same characters.
