Question – Explain the different types of psychological tests.

Answer – There are Five types of psychological test –

1 On the Basis of Mode of Administration –Test is classified into two types depending on administrative conditions: Personal Test and Group Test

  1. Individual psychological test: Individual test is the test which is given to one person at a time.
  2. Group Testing: These are mainly designed for large scale testing, which can be administered for more than one person at the time. They are economical and saving time.

2 On the Basis of the Nature and Contents of the Items  
A test can be classified based on the nature of the objects or the materials used in it. The important types of tests on this benchmark are:

i) Verbal psychological Test: It is something whose things emphasize reading, writing and verbal expression as the primary mode of communication.
ii) Nonverbal  Tests: These are tests that do not completely eliminate the role of language using pictures, figures and similar symbolic material.
iii) Demonstration tests: Those who are required to do an assignment instead of answering some questions to the test takers.
iv) Objective psychological Test: There is another classification according to the nature of test items, where the test can be classified in the Objective Type Test, in which the reactions are multilap types and essay type tests, in which responses are long answer types.

3 On the Basis of Mode of Scoring- Testing can be classified as self-run versus specialist score or hand score versus machine score test. In the self-tested test the test taker can give feedback with the help of self / self-explaining key, while in the case of a test conducted by the specialist, test reactions are done by the specialist person (usually the test administrator). There are hand-held test tests that are made manually, while the tests performed by the machine are tested which can be used for the optical mark recognition (OMR) sheet reactions used for various educational and group evaluation machines ( Computer aided).

4 On the Basis of Rate of Performance or Time Limit in Producing a Response –Testing can be classified into speed test and power test. Speed ​​tests are time-tested tests that they investigate the speed of the subject within the defined period of time. Test items in speed test are of the same difficulty, but the time limit is such that no candidate can try all the items.

5 On the Basis of Criterion of Behavioural Attitude Measured –According to the evaluated behavioral perspective, tests can be classified into personality test, capacity (intelligence, qualification, achievement and creativity) tests and outlook, values ​​and interest tests.

  1. Personality psychological test: These tests are designed to measure the personality of a person in terms of unique symptoms and behavior.
  2. Capacity psychological Test: These are qualities that enable a person to perform specific tasks at a specific time and can be classified into intellect, abilities, achievement and creativity.
  3. Intelligence psychological Test: It measures the ability of the person’s global ability such as verbal understanding, perceptual organization or reasoning, and thus helps to determine the potential for scholastic work or some occupations.
  4. Aptitude psychological test: This test measures the capacity for a particular relation, or the type of skill, the Aptitude Test is actually a narrow form of capacity test.
  5. Creativity psychological Test: This test assesses the original thinking of the novel and the ability to find abnormal or unexpected solutions, especially the obscurely defined problem.
  6. Achievement psychological Test: It measures the achievement of a person’s learning, success or work.
  7. Approach Testing: These tests refer to our evaluation of various aspects of the world and test the approach to evaluate a person’s events, objects or individuals – favorably or adversely.
  8. Value Testing: These tests refer to standard structures related to individual / group behavior or expectations.
  9. Interest Testing: These tests measure a person’s choice for some activities or topics, and thus help in determining business options.
  10. Neuropsychological test: It measures cognitive, sensory, perceptual and motor performance to determine the extinction, location and behavior of brain damage.
